The 87th Annual Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto!
The 87th Annual Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto!
The Royal is Canada’s most important agricultural event of the year. Unlike many fairs, there is no midway, but there is plenty to see with the rodeo, horse shows, dog shows, food and wine exhibits. As part of their Canadian tour, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, officially opened The Royal this morning.
The Royal Horse Show is the most prestigious indoor horse competition in North America. Spectators even dress up in ball gowns for some of the shows.
I have never been able to understand why anyone would want to get onto a raging bull and use all their might to hang on. Just look at the muscles on that beast…and the horns? Yikes. I’m happy to leave that up to the cowboys, and stay safely in the bleachers.
The SuperDogs are always a huge hit, and kids love going to see the dogs race around the arena as they compete in the agility course, and put on a great show. Always a must see if you go to The Royal.
Its great to see livestock in the city. The only animals I get to see these days are rabid squirrels in the park, and a psychotic dog in my living room.
There are always great food and wine exhibits, and displays on the latest technology in agriculture. Plus there are plenty of great restaurants and bars set up for you to get a bite to eat.
Oh, and one of my favorite things about fairs are the Giant Vegetable Challenges. How many pumpkin pies do you think that big guy would make? Can you imagine the pumpkin seeds you would find in that?
I would love to be a judge on The Royal Wine Competition. They really should set it up next to the cheese competitors, and then we’d have a real party.
Speaking of which, I wonder how much better a Grand Champion Cheddar Cheese is.
And of course there is a super cute petting zoo. I simply do not have the ability to stay away from petting zoos. Touching those velvety ears is so worth having my sweater get gnawed on.
If you are in the Toronto area this weekend, and looking for something fun to do, stop by The Royal. Its running until Saturday November 15th. For more information on the fair and to purchase tickets, visit their website.
