I have a really bad habit of losing needles and pins while I’m working on a project. It used to be that whenever I started searching for a needle, my ex-boyfriend used to jump off the couch like it was guaranteed to poke him if he stayed still.
This is a super easy craft to make, and is incredibly useful for when you are working on a sewing project. It is also a great way to use up some fabric scraps that you have around. I used red and black because that was what I had laying around, but you could do any colour combination that you want, or even make all the squares a different pattern.
What you’ll need:
– 8 – 2″x2″ squares of cotton fabric
– Scissors
– Sewing Machine
– Thread
– Needle
– Polyfil
Cut four 2″x2″ squares out of two constrasting fabrics.
Arrange the squares so that the same colours are adjacent to each other.
Now take the squares and put each pair of red and black squares face-to-face and stitch them together on one side with a 1/4″ seam allowance using a sewing machine. This will give you four rectangular pairs of one black and one red piece each.
Then take two of these rectangle pairs, put them face-to-face and stitch them together so that the red will be next to the black and vice versa. Repeat with the other two rectangle pairs. You should then have two large squares of four pieces, like above.
Take the two large squares and put them face-to-face. Stitch around three sides, leaving one side open for the polyfil to go in. When you flip it inside out you should have nice little pocket like you see above.
Using some polyfil, stuff the pocket until it is nice and plump.
Take the opening, and tuck the ends into the pocket. Pin in place.
Stitch along the opening by hand with a backstitch.
Now you have a nice little pincushion! No more lost pins while you’re making projects!
