Cars Shows and Ribs

Its been a crazy week at work (almost time for the film shoot!), so I headed to my parents’ place for the weekend to relax a little. Gotta recharge the batteries a bit!

Yesterday the rainy weather held off long enough for us to head out to a couple of car shows. We used to do this all the time when I was a kid and I still love getting out to see them when I can.

I love looking at all the great cars and admiring the old styles. I wish newer cars looked more like this!

Some of them were painted in some great colours. You can see my Dad’s 1967 Camaro just on the other side of this truck.

There was also a great rockabilly band playing, which made up for the dreary weather.

They were really rocking it out. My dad, the boyfriend and I were trying to figure out the name of that instrument on the right. Cello? Big Violin? I think its called an Upright Bass. Whatever it is, it sounded awesome.

As we walked along we saw a tent advertising the Best Ribs Ever. Of course we had to go scope it out.

We ended up sharing a few buns loaded up with brisket. They were deeeeelish and I’ll definitely be trying to make these at home soon.

We also split a few beers from Flying Monkey Craft Brewery from Barrie, Ontario. Their Antigravity Light Ale was pretty good and I’ll be looking for it again.

Cheers!

After awhile we had to go back and get a half order of ribs to split too. We couldn’t help it when we kept smelling them all over the place.

It was interesting watching them BBQ everything in these massive grills.

These were pretty good and practically fell off the bone, but I wouldn’t say they were the “Best Ribs Ever”.

We walked around and looked at a few award winning bikes.

The artwork was incredible. I wish I could have gotten a better picture of it.

The weather was still pretty dreary, but the boyfriend and I took a walk along the lake while we waited for my Dad to finish admiring the other cars.

With the impending threat of rain, there were lots of boats in the harbour.

I bet that they were all itching to get out this weekend after all the hot weather we’ve been having. Oh well, better luck next weekend.

After a quick ice cream break, we headed out to the next car show where there were a lot more.

I loved some of the crazy colours that the cars were painted, especially these three – yellow, turquoise and green. Don’t they look like fun Summer colours? I’m sure that the car guys aren’t thinking the same thing 😉

Whiskey loved the car show because it meant he got lots of food scraps from people. He even got a little piece of peameal bacon (Canadian bacon for my US friends out there). He was in heaven!

Even though the muscle cars are my favourites, I really loved this 1956 Pontiac Catalina. I even looked up one this morning online, but I think that it is a wee bit too expensive for me right now!

I could totally picture myself driving around town in this, with Whiskey in the passenger seat and some freshly baked pies in the back seat, heading off to a picnic. I really do wish that I lived in the ’50s some days!

The hood ornament on this one was great. I loved the art deco feel to it.

This old pick up was a great one too!

The boyfriend really liked this Stingray.

That is until he saw this GTO The Judge on the other side of it too.
Whiskey liked it too!

After walking around and seeing all the cars, we took a nice drive along the countryside. It felt good to be out of the city for a little while. Now I’m gearing up to head back to work tomorrow morning. Why can’t weekends be more like 3-4 days long. There is just too much that I want to do!
