Decor

Outdoorsy Decor in the City

Some of my favourite things to decorate with are everyday objects that you can find outdoors. Fresh Spring flowers. Winter evergreens. And during this time of year, pinecones are what catch my attention.

Lately I’ve had this hurricane with a few river stones in the bottom and a tall pillar candle.
While rummaging through my decor box, I found these little wood chips.
I replaced the stones with the chips, but I still needed something else.
Enter pinecones! I found these cute little ones under a tree at my parents’ house. They were the perfect size to fit in here.
After making this, I was browsing through Pottery Barn and discovered that they are actually selling gilded pinecones as vase filler, and you could easily create that look, by taking the pinecones that you find and spray painting them with a metallic paint.
I liked the pillar so much, that I started looking for other pieces that I could make and found this large shallow dish to add more wood chips and candles too.
Then I added the lovely pinecones. This looked great as a centerpiece at the kitchen table, especially when its all lit in the evening.
And on that note, be very careful when adding pinecones as vase filler with candles. They can be very flammable, so never leave a room with a lit candle. Which you should probably do anyways.
