Apartment Decor

Painting Bathroom Shelves

After thinking over all the bathroom possibilities that I mentioned the other day, we finally decided on what type of shelves to add above the toilet.

We decided to got with a series of three bracketed shelves like the ones above. We priced it out at IKEA and similar shelving units and they each ran for about $15 a shelf. Not too bad, but I knew I could find a way to make them cheaper.

Sure enough I was able to find the materials to make all three shelves for under $15, less than the price of one shelf at the stores. I love it when you find a deal like that! I bought a white board from Rona for $10 and had them cut it down to the right sizes for free. The brackets ended up being on clearance at another store and they brought them in for $0.30 each!

I decided to paint the brackets using white acrylic paint and I’ll seal them before we install them. A few coats with a foam brush seems to be working well.

The ends of the shelves just need a quick swipe of paint to make them all white too. I did this method to the ends of the office shelves and they turned out great.

Now we just need to deal everything to protect against moisture and then they’ll be ready to put up!
