Apartment

Six Months in Our Home

Yesterday marked six months of living in our first home together. It feels like the time has flown by.

I had known that living together would be good, but I never thought it’d be this good. I look forward to coming home every day to Garrett and Whiskey, and I struggle to leave for work in the morning. I want to be in our little cozy home more than anywhere else in the world. Even when there are dishes overflowing in the sink and laundry all over the bedroom floor, it still feels so good to be there.

Despite living in my apartment in Toronto for almost 4 years, it never quite felt like home and now I know why…

…it was missing this guy.
Now I’ve found my home and I realized that it has nothing to do with the roof over our heads or the material things inside – its all about who is in that home. We could be living in a shack in the woods and I’d be okay with that as long as he was there (although, lets be honest…that wouldn’t be ideal. I like electricity and plumbing, thank-you-very-much). But I think you get the point – making the decision to move in to our own place together, in a new town no less, is one of the best choices I’ve ever made.

Of course, our little trio wouldn’t be complete without Whiskey. I think that out of all of us, he’s loved the move the most. No more traveling back and forth on the train. Many more forest walks. Plenty of squirrels to stalk. And a large apartment to go nuts running around. He’s even gained weight (which has always been next to impossible with him…not so much with me), because he eats more in the new kitchen without the distraction of outside noises.

I looked out the window this morning and saw that the trees are finally starting to have buds on them. To think that when we moved in they were all fiery reds and oranges. After months of barren branches, its nice to see life coming back in.

Remember that pillow I fell in love with at Indigo books last week? While we were out on the weekend, we popped into Indigo to kill some time and happened to find the pillow on sale for 50% off. I couldn’t believe it! At only $20, we decided to buy it as a little treat and to mark the six months in our home.

I’ve propped it up on the bed for now, but I don’t know where it will go. I still want to recover those gold throw pillows too, so maybe I’ll find something that goes with the new pillow too.

Every time I look at it, I’ll think about the best decision I made and how its led me to where I am now – at home every night with the one that I love, and our little pooch snuggled in between us. Life is good.
