Back on Track

The past two weeks have been so insane at work, that I haven’t had any time to blog – which is devastating because I love posting every day when I can. If I don’t have something up on the blog by noon at my lunch break, then I know its unlikely that I’ll get something posted by the end of the day. And these days lunch breaks and coffee breaks are short and rare.

But I’m back on track now, with a whole slew of projects and recipes that I was working on this weekend! It feels good to be back!

Part of the reason I was so absent last week is that I was at a retreat for work and when we got there, the internet wasn’t working.

Which was quite alright, because the lake we were on was a beautiful distraction anyways. This was the view from the back deck of my little cottage.

I was only 10 steps away from dipping my toes in here.

On our lunch breaks, we’d take walks around the shoreline and find interesting things, like this dead crayfish a seagull dropped in front of us. My coworker was joking that he was “texting”.

There was plenty of other less gruesome wildlife, like these mallard ducks and the little baby ones that hung out on the water edge.

This was our view in the evening. It was a welcome break from the office!
But after a busy week, I was glad to be home this weekend.
I fixed up a few things around the house – including this hook on the inside of the closet door, which had snapped off. 30 seconds later we had a new hook installed. Why did I wait so long to do this?

I was able to hit up the Farmer’s Market for the first time in weeks! I really missed picking up our locally grown goodies!

I always love seeing all the people and their dogs that come out. This adorable viszla looked quite content to be walking around meeting new people too.

We came home with big bundles of produce to make into yummy things this week.

My choice was some kale to make into my favourite Kale Chips!

A big basket of cherries was made into a yummy rustic cherry pie, with a light egg wash to brown up the sides a bit. I didn’t get a picture after it was baked because it was gone that quickly.

Sunday I headed to my parents’ place for a nice Father’s Day with the family. I always love walking around their property and checking out what is growing. All the wild strawberries were starting to come out and I can’t wait to see where they’ll be in another week.

We had dinner out on the porch, enjoying the nice weather.
Fresh peonies from the garden and a vintage table cloth from mom’s collection.

My sister made her awesome Peppermit Pattie Brownies, which I’ll be posting the recipe for later this week. They are even better than they look – lots of rich chocolate flavour, with this pillows of peppermint patty filling. I took a few home to Garrett and I think I actually saw his eyes roll in the back of his head after the first bite. I actually have one waiting for me when I get home from work tonight (unless he beats me to it!)

I’m so glad to be back and able to share some new things this week. I really missed posting and I especially missed reading everyone else’s blogs too. I’m looking forward to getting caught up!
