Lots of Goodies at Ribfest

One of the things I really love about the town that we’re living in right now, is all the awesome events they have planned every week. There are always signs around town for festivals, markets and shows.

This past week we hopped on our bikes to take a ride around town and came across Ribfest. Are you serious? BBQ? I could hardly bike fast enough to get in the parking lot.

There were five massive BBQ companies there, each with their own signs advertising them as the best.

They had rows upon rows of awards showing how fantastic they were.

Each one had won ribfests around the world.

It made it really hard to pick which one to buy from. Too many choices!

I went with the one with the giant fork. Reminded me of Iowa Girl Eats’ kitchen.

Each stand was actually a massive truck trailer, with huge industrial ovens and smokers built into the sides.

Some people really like their BBQ.

In front of the trucks they had big grills with the ribs getting a final grilling before they were served up.

Smothered in delicious sticky BBQ sauce.

After seeing 10 people walking by with blooming onions, we finally spotted this truck. I’d only ever tried one with my family once on a trip to Outbacks and Garrett had never seen one outside of internet photos, so we knew we needed to try this.

It was just as good as we expected.

We ended up sitting down for a little impromptu picnic while we listened to the country band playing. (There was also an undocumented roasted cob of corn with paprika sprinkled on. Yum.)

We feasted on a delicious 1/2 rack of ribs. The extra crispy parts were my favourite.

While Garrett grabbed right onto one like a caveman.

We washed it all down with a big tall glass of Alabama Freshly Squeezed Lemonade.

Dessert was a little baggie of Tiny Tom Donuts. Always a favourite! (we had them at the CNE last year too!)

Despite doggie bagging most of that food, I have to admit that we were both stuffed. We could hardly hop back on the bikes and head home. I like to think we burned off all those calories while we made our way back up hill, right?

I’m looking forward to more events in our town this Fall and plenty of bike rides to before we have to pack them up for the winter. (Don’t even want to think about that right now.)
