Happy Friday! We’re just about ready to kick off the August long weekend here in Canada. For this week’s Friday Favourites, I’m sharing some of the long weekend ideas I’ve got rolling around in my head!
1. Must Try BBQ Recipe: Cheese Filled Zucchini Rolls
I love grilled zucchini, especially with a little fresh parmesan grated on top and the only thing that I think can make it better is having it stuffed with cheese. I’ve got some zukes in the fridge right now that are perfect for this new grilled side dish.
2. Most Illuminating Summer Craft: Tin Can Lanterns
Elise from Grow Creative has a great Tin Can Lantern Tutorial. I’ve been saving our tin cans lately to make this project. It seems like a fun way to liven up our porch for the long weekend.
She painted them in some really fun bright spray paint, so they look still look nice and festive during the day.
3. Latest Ice Cream Request: Coffee Ice Cream
We’ve been on a great homemade ice cream run lately (Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream, then Butterscotch Ice Cream), but Garrett has made a request that our next batch is coffee flavoured for my caffeine-crazy man.
I just hope that if we make it, it will turn out half as good as this recipe looks. The cream is actually infused with the coffee flavour from these beans. Wow! I don’t like coffee, but I love coffee-flavoured things and I’m sure this will be awesome.
4. Drive-In Movie Pick: 2 Guns
We love going to the drive-in during the summer and go as many times as we can each year, especially on long weekends when we know that the fireworks near our house will be scaring Whiskey all night.
This weekend we’re hoping to catch 2 Guns. Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington play two undercover agents who were trying to infiltrate a drug cartel – but neither of them knew they were uncover. Should make for an interesting Summer action movie.
5. Dream Long Weekend Location: Southport, North Carolina

If I could be transported anywhere this long weekend, I’d love to check out Southport, North Carolina.

This beautiful seaside town as been the filming location for Nights in Rodanthe, A Walk to Remember, Safe Haven, Summer Catch, Dawson’s Creek and many more. I love it when the location of a film or television show is so great that it almost becomes it’s own character.

Doesn’t it looks like such a cute town to visit in the summer? Maybe one of these days I’ll make a stop in there on a road trip.
