Yesterday I went to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair with my friend and her cute little babe M.
These Holstein calves were all lined up waiting to be groomed.
I never realized the amount of work that went into getting the calves ready for showing. They were brushed, sprayed, given a hair cut and even vaccumed.
In the Ricoh Cliseum they were judging the 4-H Diary Showmanship Finals. After months of work, these young men and women finally had the chance to strut their stuff around the ring. There were alot of big smiles and proud parents in that ring.
And of course there was an incredible amount of produce there.
I’ve never seen a green pepper that looked like this before, but maybe I’ve just been sheltered.
This poor little guy has lost his winter coat. Thats how Whiskey must feel when we run into fluffly furry dogs at the dog park – jealous.
Speaking of warm, just look at these little piglets all nuzzled in together. These little guys are only a week old and they understand the important things in life – family and sleep.
These sheep were waiting for their show, and were wrapped in these blankets to keep them clean.
However, it was a little disturbing to see these sheep in white covers.
What does this remind you of?
Look what we found – Giant Pumpkins! 1241.6 lbs? I can only imagine the work that goes into maintaining that.
Now these giant vegetables just looked so alien to me. I know that they are supposed to be root vegetables, but I just picture them cracking open and some extraterrestrial creature jumping out.
This llama had a serious hairdo going on. My sister has never a big fan of llamas, and when this guy turned to face me I could see why. I was very afraid he would spit on my new camera lens…literally.
Our beloved Mounties.
You can’t go to a fair without seeing some goats.
Here are some more vegetable and fruit displays. The ambundance of produce there was amazing. We should have tried to smuggle some out in M’s stroller.
Spuds! I’ve got a craving for my mom’s twice baked potatoes.
Little M was such a good sport. Even when she was getting tired and wanted to snuggle up with her Eeyore.
I seriously can’t handle her cuteness. Those big blue eyes are going to get her into trouble some day.
Getting a chance to get out and spend some time with two of my favorite girls was a blast. I just can’t wait until she can talk about everything with us.

What a beautiful baby! I used to take you to the Royal Fair.
Your favorite display was the baby piglets.

Thank you, Mom (aka “Anonymous #2”). The piglets are still one of my favorite parts. I remember one year you bought me little tiny rubber piglets that I carried around in my pockets. I think I still have one in an old jewelery box.
