Gift Ideas

Recipe Cards

One of my dearest friends, Al, gave me an incredibly sweet gift this year – cute, fun AND functional recipe cards. This girl seriously knows what makes my skirt fly up.

For years I have kept recipes on scraps of paper or boring index cards. I have a whole box full of computer print outs.

But now I can write them all down on these great cards. I love the layout and they are the perfect size to prop up in the kitchen without squinting to see what they say.

And the best part? She gave me this pen to go with it. But this ain’t no ordinary pen. No siree.
This is a SMUDGE PROOF pen. Meaning that I can grab the card with my wet/greasy fingers mid-recipe and it doesn’t smudge. I can’t wait to write out my apple pie recipe, because as it stands right now it as gotten so bad over the years that you can practically see through it from the shortening smudges.

I’m not quite sure where she picked up these nifty little cards, but there are some great artists on Etsy that are selling recipe cards these days:

1canoe2 has these adorable Letterpress Recipe Cards, with dividers. I love the beautiful illustrations, and then have all been hand-drawn and then turned into letterpress plates. So talented. She also has some adorable cloth 2010 calenders.

Or for your favorite cupcake connoisseur, how about these Cupcake Trio Recipe Cards from Dingbatpress. All I can say is yum!!

Whisker Graphics has these great looking printable and editable GOOD FOOD recipe cards. They send you the PDF file, and you simply type in the recipe and print them onto cardstock. Makes sharing recipes a breeze, and you can even go onto your favorite online recipe sites to copy and paste recipes over to the template. Includes the layout for this great Mini Folder.

Cute! I love recipe cards. A tip I learned from my mother: if you put the card in a plastic photo covering (like the pages from a 4×6 photo album)you can just wipe off the recipe card whenever you’re done. No more shortening smudges.
