Birthday Cottage Friends Hometown Party

May 2-4 Long Weekend Recap

This weekend was a whirlwind of friends, family and fireworks while I was celebrating my 25th birthday and the first long weekend of Summer here in Canada. The girls came up for some lasagna and birthday cake with my family, but the real party didn’t kick off until everyone else got there on Saturday afternoon.

Its a steep walk down the hill from the house to the dock, but Ash seemed to be able to manage it.

…with only some minor stumbling in her flippy floppies.

It wasn’t long before we had some beers cracked open and were all sitting around nibbling on a Layered Nacho Dip. (Unfortunately there were no pictures of that because…well…we ate it. A lot of it.)

Scott and I sat on the paddleboat with the intend of taking it out for a spin, but we didn’t get it in the water until the next morning. For now it was just a convenient spot to sit and enjoy a nice cold beer.

Some of my favorite ladies. We had an absolute blast catching up (Look! There is evidence of layered nacho dip on the table!)

Johnny made an appearance and brought some Samuel Adams Summer Ale with him, which put him in my good books. I love this stuff!

Once it got dark, it was time for a nice BIG bonfire.

I apologize for the blurry pictures, but I love this image because it looks like we are all every intent on listening to what Heather has to say. This could have been a story about the migrating patterns of birds for all I know, but it looks like it was captivating to say the least.

Nothing beats a bonfire on a summer night. I ate my weight in s`mores that night and loved every minute of it.

Warming up the toesies.

Elaine and Heather being…well…Elaine and Heather.

G and I are either a) laughing about some hilarious political joke, b) contemplating world domination or c) toasting marshmallows and discussing how he had never tried one (I kid you not! I cooked him his first! Which may or may not have taken several attempts to not make a burnt one.)

See that cute green lantern that Scott is holding up? I had these strung up in the trees for some extra glow. they looked great, but slowly one by one they started to die.

Evidently he thought that it would make a good lip ring and proceeded to carry it around hanging from his mouth for the next hour. Which was very helpful in locating him when he wandered off into the bushes later looking for marshmallow roasting sticks.

Another two of my favorite ladies! Our road trip this Summer to Nashville has been postponed due to the flooding, but hopefully we’ll be heading out for more adventures soon.

My roommates from Queen’s University even made it up for the weekend! I lived with these girls for four years and still love them to bits. Exactly a year ago yesterday we left for a 10 day trip to Greece together and had a blast. I can see us still sitting around the fire chatting 40 years from now.

The next day it was off to the beach to catch some rays and relaxing from all that hard work “bonfiring” the night before.

G was our Towel Boy. An important job.

Some of us were a wee bit partied out. Please note the beer can hidden in the sock. Keeping it classy whilst drinking at the beach. Don’t worry….I was the designated driver. Which meant I could just nap on the beach and ignore the little kids kicking up sand every time they ran by us.

Hopefully we can hold up better for the Canada Day long weekend ; )
