Hup Holland Hup!

Today is the final game of the 2010 World Cup as the Netherlands goes head-to-head with Spain! I haven’t been following it as religiously as many people in Toronto have been, but I’ve been catching games out on patios or online when I get the chance. As the games have been coming to as end, the excitement has become palpable.

All over the world Netherlands fans have been showing their colours…and I have to admit that even though I haven’t been supporting them much so far (I was rooting for Germany!), their excitement has been contagious.

Hup Holland Hup!

Just this morning I heard one of the cutest supporter stories thus far from the World Cup coverage. In support of the Dutch team, a pastor from Obdam, Netherlands held mass today in an orange cape. The little church had everything orange for today, including the candles, piano and even the priest’s robes. He kicked off his sermon to some 300 orange-clad worshipers by praying that the Dutch win today.

Well, lets hope that he is right and that Paul the octopus oracle is wrong about Spain winning today!
