Toronto

Taste of Little Italy

On Saturday night I was taking the College Street car across the city, when it abruptly stopped and everyone was kicked off. I didn’t have too far to go, so I thought “oh well, I’ll just walk”. Its not uncommon for there to be closures every once and awhile so I didn’t think anything off it.

As I walked farther down the street it got busier and busier. It was Taste of Little Italy! I had no idea that it was that time of year already. Thats what I get for being so busy – I miss out on all the fun stuff that pops up around this city.

Within minutes of walking through the crowd I started to hear some familiar tunes. At every block there was a new band performing. The whole street was full of music.

Along the way there were also some fun booths, like this lemonade stand. Why does this remind me so much of the banana stand from Arrested Development? (miss that show!)

Many of the restaurants along the way also set up extended patios for festival goers to hang out. If I’d had more time this weekend, I would have loved to have met up with some friends here for a few drinks.

Instead I grabbed a bowl of Penne alla Vodka from one of my favorite restaurants. It was a massive bowl, so I gave most of it to the boyfriend (who was happy for the unexpected treat), but the little that I did have was amazing. So simple, yet so good.

There were also plenty of street vendor shops to pop in and look at.

They even had a little midway for the kiddos.

I love this picture because of that little guy on the left in the strip shirt sitting beside his dad. His feet can’t even touch the ground. Too cute.

Many of the kids also jumped in for some dancing in the streets. They looks like they’re having a blast.

I would have loved to have taken more pictures, but it was impossible with so many people there. The whole street was packed! Apparently it was like this the entire weekend, with the street shut down for lots of different events. Hopefully I’ll be able to spend more time there another year, because it looked like lots of fun. It was still a nice little unexpected surprise when I walked through it!
