Italian Turkey Burgers

I’m always looking for easy healthy dinner ideas and when I saw fitness model Jamie Eason’s Italian Turkey Burgers I knew I had to give them a try. They are a leaner version of a burger, but with so much flavour that you won’t even miss the beef. I also added some low fat baked french fries on the side, but I think homemade sweet potato wedges or roasted green beans would have been better if I had them on hand. I’m looking forward to barbecuing these burgers next time!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 lb of extra lean ground turkey
  • 2 medium zucchini, grated
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Set broiler on high and place oven rack on the top rack.

Grate the zucchini and keep it all, even the water that comes out. This will add moisture to the burgers.

In a large bowl combine the zucchini and spices.
Add in the turkey and mix with your hands until combined.

Divide the mixture into 5-6 balls and then flatten on a foil-lined baking sheet.

Place burgers in the oven and broil for 7 minutes. Flip and continue to broil for another 7 minutes on the other side.

Serve these burgers on a whole wheat bun with all your favourite toppings!
