We finally got power and hot water back in our apartment on Thursday night, after a week without it. I never realized how much I used electricity until I didn’t have it. It definitely gives you a new appreciation for it. It made it really hard to find time (and a place) to blog at night, but I’ll be getting caught up this week. I’m so far behind on all my favourite blogs!
We were away all weekend, so last night was the first time I’ve cooked dinner at home in our kitchen in over 10 days! For someone who loves to cook, that seems like forever. I’m excited to get back in the kitchen and try out some new recipes, so look out for them here on the blog.
But dinner last night was just an “empty out the fridge” kind of dinner. Green leaf salad and scrambled eggs with cajun chicken, grape tomatoes, mushrooms and green onions. It may not look like much but it tasted great.
After dinner, we walked over to the local blood clinic for Garrett to donate. I’m a bit too squeamish to do it myself, so I just came to offer support…and eat cookies 🙂
Afterwards we took a nice long walk through our neighbourhood. I loved walking around back in March, but now that everything is blooming, it is even nicer.
One of my favourite porches in our town. Looks like something straight out of Cape Cod.
A lush front garden, that is only going to bloom more as the weather gets nicer.
I should back up a bit and tell you about our crazy action packed weekend. It started with some shopping, dinner and a housewarming party on Friday night.
Then we headed to the city on Saturday for me to work at my part-time job for a bit, but once that was done we were on our way to an event I’ve been waiting months for.
Colleen’s Wedding! I was so happy to be there to celebrate her and Kevin’s big day. It was such a fun night with my university roomates and I’ll have more picture to share later on this week.
Sunday started with a lovely brunch (I tried Huevo Rancheros and loved it!), and then we were off to a co-ed baby shower.
One of my favourite little buddies was there to celebrate. He was having lots of fun throwing celery and carrot sticks around. What a cutie!
He was all smiles until the second that I tried to take a picture with his mama. Of course, right?
Afterwards, we parted ways to spend some time with our own mama’s. My siblings and I gave our mom two big hanging baskets for the front of the house. Aren’t they gorgeous? I picked them up from Homestead Garden Growers (the same people who gave me flowers for last year’s garden).
I can’t believe how lush and full they are and they’re only going to get bigger.
Of course I picked up some plants for myself. They are all parked on the dining room table right now, but I’m hoping to get them planted later this week.
And we have a new neighbour who may enjoy the flowers…
…a racoon. He seems to love to sneak into the garbage bin shed around back and camp out inside. I’m always worried to toss a bag in there incase he jumps out.
