I love weekends and always feel sad when Sunday night rolls around and I have to think about setting out work clothes, packing up lunch bags and figuring out the weekly menu. However, when I have a weekend like I just did, where I get to spend time doing a lot of things that I love with people I love, it makes it a little bit easier to head back to work on Monday because I feel so grateful for the good times I did get to have.
Nothing better than a newborn snuggled up on your chest, dozing off. I could have stayed like that all night.
It was great to catch up with friends and celebrate the newest little member of their family.
Another favourite weekend activity is heading to the farmers market and this weekend we got the big haul! I went with my mom and great aunt, so we bought plenty of a variety of different vegetables and then divvied them up.
I went home with some corn on the cob, which was already cooked up last night for dinner. First corn of the season and we loved it! The leftovers were made into Fresh Corn Salad.
Bunches of carrots – I tossed mine into a crock pot this morning (along with celery and onions) and a rump roast for dinner tonight.
Peas – which were shucked and eaten raw as soon as we got home from the market.
Beets – my mom took these because they love beets at their house, but I’m not too crazy about them.
Of course all those vegetables had to be balanced out with a little chocolate, right? I melted chocolate not once, but THREE TIMES this weekend for various recipes. And you know I scraped the last bits out of the bowl every time for my own consumption. It put me in a very good mood…until the sugar crash hit.
And on a final note today, I share with you a picture of my family’s doberman, Shadow, in her most lady-like position. She sure does love her belly rubs up on the porch swing.
