Dogs

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

We are not the kind of house where the dog isn’t allowed on the bed or the couch. He started doing it from day one and he is just too cuddly to not let him up with us.

It also means that he gets to enjoy naps in sunbeams in his favourite spot.

He always looks so peaceful and content and makes me want to join him for a nap.

As sweet as he looks right now sleeping, he has a vicious new habit that has formed this summer. One that we’ve actually been taking advantage of.

He has become an expert fly hunter. All you have to do it point at one in the room and he will find it, catch it (even if it takes 30 minutes) and promptly eat it. That part is gross, but the fly removal part is fantastic. I think it is all those winter months of playing with the laser pointer that trained him. That and his history of catching larger prey like squirrels and birds (and even the tail end of a rabbit once).

So don’t be fooled by his cute looks. He is secretly a ruthless hunter…

…who is always on alert for the next fly intruder.
