Autumn Costume Dogs Halloween

Business Suit Dog Costume

There is an ongoing joke in my family that when I switched jobs last year, Whiskey lost his position as my old office’s mascot.

I loved being able to have him come to work with me everyday and I think he enjoyed the change of scenery too. He used to perch on top of my desk chair, and nuzzle into my neck like a cat.

Falling asleep on my shoulder was a common occurrence.

So when brainstorming for costume ideas for him, I thought of making him a business suit, to help him get back into the workforce.

This was the end result. It fit him perfectly the night before, but by the next day it had stretched in the neck area.

He still looked pretty cute with his white collar and red tie.

My favourite part is the cute cuffed sleeves. I used an old pair of dress pants, which already had a cuff on them, so I used that portion of the pants to make the sleeves.

For a pattern for the back’s shape, I traced the shape of Whiskey’s favourite sweater.

Despite the super stretched out neck (so frustrating!), he looked pretty dapper in his new suit. Just call him Don Draper.

Despite the fact that it didn’t turn out quite like I had hoped, it was still lots of fun making it for him….even if he is more interested in watching squirrels in the distance, then having his photo taken.

The costume was meant to be our entry in a dog costume contest at a local park, but in the end we had to skip it to visit family. Although I did make a quick detour by the park on our way out of town, hoping to catch some cute dog costumes.

There were dogs dressed together as a bumblebee and a ladybug, but they were both more interested in other dogs at the park, than in paying attention to me.

This sweet little pup had a little red riding cape (how soft do those ears look? I would love to cuddle this little thing.)

This chocolate labradoodle was relaxing in the sun (cute leash!)

But I think the best costume there was this hot dog named Cooper.

If I’d had more time, I would have loved to have entered Whiskey in the contest (stretched out suit and all). Maybe next year!
