Christmas Dogs Holidays Photography

Attempting to Take a Christmas Photo of the Dogs

Last Sunday, we were visiting my parents’ for dinner, and we tried to take a cute Christmas photo of Whiskey with my family’s doberman, Shadow.

52 photos later, we had no photo, but I did get a nice series of two dogs refusing to cooperate…

We tried to get their attention, but they were more concerned with what was going on in the other room.

Then we tried to put a big red bow on Whiskey, but he wasn’t having any of it.

Beautiful Shadow, all by herself. If only we could get that flipped up ear to stay down, or straight up.

Her ears stand like this because of the people who had her before my parents’ adopted her. They didn’t take care of her ears, and now one ear flips down and the other flips up! I think it makes her look quirky and adds character, but sometimes it looks funny in photos.

So we tried to push it down and quickly take a photo…

…but it started to pop back up.

Maybe we could distract her with a candy cane.

Hop back in Whiskey, and we’ll take a quick photo!

Or maybe not.

This one would be cute, if Whiskey wasn’t blurry and Shadow didn’t look like she had no ears.

I didn’t know that dogs could blink and ruin a photo like a human, until I saw this.

I finally got Whiskey to stay still, and Shadow starts to get restless.

So I asked her to “sit pretty”, so she got up, walked around and…

“sat pretty”…..facing the other way.

(I have to laugh at her “muffin top”. She has a problem with stealing loaves of bread and bags of bagels. She loves carbs!)

Maybe we can distract her with the candy cane some more. (Don’t worry – we didn’t let her eat it)

A vicious doberman, in her festive Christmas collar.

Just a little lick?

I guess taking Christmas photos can be exhausting.

Merry Christmas from two tired pooches.

I’ll be attempting this again next weekend when we visit. Maybe I can get some better photos by bringing treats, shooting during the day with some natural light and using the tips from yesterday’s post – Making the Most of Your Holiday Photos. Wish me luck!
