Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day Recap

I love Valentine’s Day. We show how much we love each other every day of the year, but there is something special about having a day devoted to it. (Plus it helps break up the time between Christmas and Easter!)

Right before bed the night before Valentine’s Day, I snuck around the house and left Garrett 15 little notes around the apartment with all the things I love about him. I thought it would be a nice way to brighten his day after his 4:30am wake up call.

After a long day at work, I came home to find this beautiful bouquet waiting for me.

It is from the same florist that Garrett got the anniversary bouquet from. I love that they always pick fun and vibrant flowers. They really liven the place up!

My favourite part was the little strings of bling that they added to these palm leaves. So fun!

Whiskey seemed to really like them too. This is 1 of 20 bloopers from him jumping in to give them a sniff.

I also made a bouquet for Garrett….made out of gym sock “roses”. He loved it! I’ll do up a full tutorial on it soon.

Garrett spoiled me with my favourite Vermont Nut Free Chocolates.

These little milk chocolate raisin clusters have got the better of me. So hard to resist!

We also had some grade school Valentine’s Day flashbacks with these Kinder Egg Valentine’s. I don’t think I’d had one of these since I was a kid!

Our original plan for dinner was to make something out of Practical Paleo, but then we found out that we were both working 12 hour shifts that day…so taking on a new recipe might not be the best idea. We’re hoping to try it soon though. Instead, we opted to treat ourselves to some takeout.

Earlier this week, Garrett was all ready to order a little Red Velvet cake from our favourite local bakery…until we found out they had closed down. Bummer 🙁

What he was really craving was the thick cream cheese icing, so I made my Great Aunt’s Carrot Cake as an alternative. It meant getting up at 5am to bake it before work, but it was worth it! Just the smell of it gives me flashbacks to visits to my Great Aunt’s farm when I was growing up. She always had a pan of this cake waiting for us when we got there.

Now that we’re slowly emerging from our chocolate and sugar coma, I’m thinking that March should be a clean eating month….once all these chocolate are gone.
