Another holiday and another chance to use the window pane mirror that Garrett’s parents gave us last summer. I really love how I’ve been able to use it for the bookcase mantel displays for Fall, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and now Easter. It adds extra light to this room from the window adjacent to it, and also some height to the bookcase.
For a little touch of green (and to remind myself that Spring really is just around the corner), I added a faux greenery wreath with some bright yellow satin ribbon (leftover from the Tea Party Bridal Shower last fall!). The small vase and yellow flowers have been sitting on the kitchen shelf for ages and have finally found a new home.
Rather than buying too much new stuff (we’re running out of space here!), I decided to shop around and find some things from around the apartment that I haven’t used in awhile. It’s funny how you’ll have walked past something every day for months and not though of a new purpose for it. Then inspiration strikes, and BAM it’s new again!
One new addition to the collection is this little wooden crate. I’m hoping to sand it down a bit more, maybe distress it a little and then stain it. It would look great in the summer, overflowing with fresh herbs.
For now I used it to house the growing collection of Easter eggs! I used a combination of the Fabric Wrapped Easter Eggs and Twine Wrapped Easter Eggs I made last week. The pink polka dot fabric is my favourite, and is already inspiring me for another Easter project this weekend.
On the other side of the mantel, I added a basket of moss, with some simple white eggs nestled inside. To add some height, I put it on top of the wooden cake stand my brother made for my friends’ wedding on Toronto Island last summer. This is another piece that I would like to refinish some more.
I couldn’t help myself when I saw this bright and colorful container of beautiful fleurettes at the grocery store this week. I love having a new houseplant. It brings some life into the house again and reminds me that it’s Spring and things will start to grow again and come to life. The snow will go away. (That’s my mantra right now whenever I’m taking Whiskey out for his morning walk.)
When I walked into the living room this morning and saw this bright and festive display, I have to admit that it cheered me right up. Nothing like bringing a little colour into your day to liven things up!

Your mantel looks adorable and the eggs are perfect! I tried the embroidery thread ones but used hot glue… was too chunky. I am a bit of an impatient crafter so I had to switch to yarn. Yours are much more beautiful:) The cake stand is super cool, I think I need to make one of those!

This looks wonderful — so colorful and fresh! I’ve never seen anything like the wooden cake stand, and it’s very pretty. I’ll have to go check out how you did the fabric-covered eggs — they are so cute!
Be happy!
