Decor Kitchen

I’m Dreaming of a White Kitchen

I use Pinterest all the time for projects ideas and recipe inspiration (especially for lazy weeknight meals), but often times I pin a bunch of stuff I like…and then forget about it. So, occasionally I like to look back through my boards and see what’s in there. Maybe delete a few duplicates (I must have really liked that one!) and move things over to a different board.

While I was doing that the other night, I opened my “Inspiring Kitchens” pinboard and noticed a distinct trend – I like white kitchens…alot.

I guess I’ve been absent mindedly adding in images to that pinboard and it turns out that 90% of them are of white or light kitchens. It turns out that Pinterest is a great way to figure out what you like subconsciously!

So bright and clean – and just waiting for me to making a big cooking mess.

The combination of the white cabinets, pale blue island and rustic table just sings to me. I could jump in that photo and feel right at home.

Back when I lived in my bachelorette apartment in Little Italy, Toronto, I had an itty bitty kitchen which was close to white – more of a cream colour…and very packed in there. I can’t believe I did so much cooking for the blog there in the early days. As much as it was a pain to wipe them down all the time (hello tomato sauce splatter!), I loved the freshness of an almost-white kitchen.

Then we moved into our new apartment in October 2011 and got brand new dark wood cabinets in our slightly less tiny kitchen. Although I like having all the extra space, over time I’ve missed that fresh look of a white kitchen.
When we buy our first home, if we have to renovate the kitchen, I think I already know what I’m going to put my vote in for.

Maybe some glass front cabinets.

It could have some bright pops of colours.

Or maybe go for a more neutral palette.

 A few sea glass accents.

Or some bright green cabinet interiors for a little element of surprise.

Another trend I noticed in that pinboard – checkered floors! I love ’em. I don’t know if its just a throwback to another time, but I can’t get enough checkered floors. Whether they’re in a large open kitchen…

…or a small galley kitchen, they look great.

Although I’m undecided if I like them on an angle, or in straight lines like this.

 What do you think?

Ooooooh, but look at this one in an a soft oatmeal colour! It’s subtle, but I love it with the contrast of the black on the island and the school house pendants above.

What’s your favourite kitchen style?

If you don’t know off the top of your head, take a look at your Pinterest boards. You may be pleasantly surprised what you learn about yourself and your style preferences!

I love the look of a white kitchen — currently we have old, worn-out dark wood cabinets in ours, which I’m hoping we can paint white to brighten it up in there (if we can just find the time to get it done, haha). All of these examples are completely beautiful and inspiring, so thanks for sharing. 🙂

I prefer the old world, darker, richer rustic and wood elements.
