Happy Friday! We’ve got a fun weekend lined up that starts with sleeping in on Saturday (yes, I actually had to plan for that to happen), then a birthday party, a little wedding planning, a few DIY projects and crafts (so excited to share them next week) and then finalizing the details of our mini road trip next month. It’ll be an action packed couple of days for sure!
It’s been a busy week around here, but even in the hectic day-to-day moments you can find things that make you happy. Here are 5 things that really made me smile this week.
1. Dill Pickle Pumpkin Seeds
On my way to BlogPodium last weekend, I stopped into a gas station to pick up a few snacks. As tempting as the family size bag of ketchup chips were, I spotted these dill pickle pumpkin seeds and thought I’d give them a try.
Well, it turned out to be the right decision because I’ve since gone back to the gas station twice to pick up more. They’re almost as good as the Roasted Pumpkin Seeds I do at home, but nothing beats my Caramelized Pumpkin Seeds (love the sweet & salty taste!)
2. The Sweater Shaver
On Sunday night, I headed over to my parents’ house for dinner and my mom mentioned that she had been using a sweater shaver to remove the pills on the basement couch. I was shocked when I saw how great it had worked on their couch and it got me thinking about things I had back at home…
…so I started by shaving off all the little pills on the couch we were given last winter. I could not believe the difference. If you have a couch with this kind of woven fabric, you need to give it a try.
Then I moved onto sweaters. I have a couple of sweater that I love but they had quickly turned into a pilly mess. No more! I think that Whiskey was worried that I was going to do him next.
I honestly think that this would be an awesome gift for anyone you know who loves their sweaters or neat freaks like me. If you don’t know what to get the Mr. Rogers in your neighbourhood – this is it.
3. Touring the Princess Margaret Dream Home with Brian Gluckstein
On Wednesday night, I was invited to tour the Princess Margaret Dream Home with the fabulous designer, Brian Gluckstein. This $3.7 million home is unbelievable. I’ll be doing a Saturday post tomorrow to share all the details with you, so be sure to stop by and check it out.
I even got a chance to meet Brian and chat about the home and his great collection. He is such a personable man and so easy to talk to. He gave a great informal Q&A with everyone and it was interesting to hear how he combines high end pieces with his department store collection to create a relaxed luxe feel to the home. It had me wanting to redo our whole apartment!
4. Homemade Perogies
I was over at my friend Amy’s place last Sunday, helping her make a bunch of food to freeze for the coming months. While she was making tomato sauce, I was tasked with learning how to make homemade perogies from her family’s recipe. I couldn’t believe how easy it is. All these years I thought it was a big secret!
I came home and made them for Garrett for dinner the very next night. They may not have been as awesome as his Polish grandmother’s (Hi Nana Jean!) but they were a pretty good first attempt. I’ll be sharing the recipe next week.
5. New Fall TV Shows
I love when the new fall TV schedule comes out. I watch a bunch of them, figure out which ones I really like and then stick to those few. Let me know if you’ve watched any great new shows that I should add to my list!
That is what made me happy this week, but I’d love to hear from you guys.
What was it that made you smile?
