I’ve always loved celebrating birthdays – whether they’re mine or someone else’s, and especially if they’re surprise birthdays. It’s great to celebrate another year in someone’s life, but the real highlight is always the birthday cake. It’s the perfect excuse to eat something sweet, delicious and almost always decadent.
Over the years, we’ve had some great birthday cakes like The Armadillo Cake my sister made (a la Steel Magnolias), Oreo Chocolate Fudge Cake, Peppermint White Chocolate Cake, Sour Cream Lemon Cake with Lemon Buttercream Icing, Banana Chocolate Chip Cake and some unconventional ones too such as Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie, Cookie Dough Ice Cream Pie and even a Dog Birthday Cake for Whiskey.
This Christmas, my mom put a special little surprise in our stockings – she made us Birthday Candle Kits! They’re the perfect size to keep tucked away in the pantry.
Inside the box, there is everything that we need to light up a birthday cake.
A couple of different varieties of candles
An awesome glass flower birthday candle holder she picked up at the museum shop at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers, Florida. It’s absolutely darling and I can’t wait to have a birthday cake to use it on.
The best part – a lighter. I’ll never be searching around the house for a lighter to light up birthday candles again. I don’t know how many times we’ve had the candles stuck in the cake and we’re hunting down a lighter. Bonus – it’s got lady bugs on it. Win-Win.
This is a great little gift idea or something that you could put together for yourself! You may already have all the pieces at your house and all you need to do is pull all into one place.

That’s a great idea. I have quite the collection of candles as well. Birthday candles are one of my favourite things to give to our friends in France because they don’t have the same ones there (not even sure if you can buy them or not) and they take up so little room in a package.

Where did your mom get the glass candle holders? I have 3 similar to it that I bought 10 years ago at a local gift shop which is no longer in business. My sister-in-law would love to have some and I cannot find any online. Any help or direction you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
