Happy Friday! I’ve been playing around with the idea of changing Friday Favourites from sharing my favourites things I find online during the week to posting more about my favourite things going on in our lives during the week. It’s all about finding the positive in our own lives, because sometimes it feels like even a few “bad things” can cast a shadow on all the good that is around. Do you feel that way sometimes?
My only real “goal” for 2014 was to focus on positive words rather than negative ones and spend more time being grateful for what we do have instead of letting doubts and complaining ruin my day. We just pasted six month since I set those goals and I’m thinking I’m going a pretty good job, but it seemed like a good time to revisit them and work on that positivity again – and what better way than on Friday Favourites!
So this is about finding and sharing the good around me – and I want you all to feel free to share the good things in your week too in the comments below. I’d love to hear them!

New Dish Towels: I found these cute striped tea towels from Canadian brand Pehr Designs at Indigo (as of right now, they are still in stock and on sale). Not only are they real nice quality tea towels, but they also double as fun backgrounds for recipe posts. I’m always looking for more photo props!
Ditch Bouquet: I posted on Instagram this morning about these wildflowers I found in a ditch during my morning walk with the dogs today. They just looked so fresh and fun – perfect to sit on the kitchen table in one of my blue mason jars. How can you not smile when you see cute little daisies like this?
Cookies Please: I was going through some blog archives this week to fix some glitches and I came across this recipe for Good Medicine Lodge Montana Cookies from back in September 2011. I’d completely forgot about this recipe and just seeing the pictures brought back the memory of how yummy these cookies were. It’s on my radar to make them again soon.
Sneak peak of this weekend’s project: I’ve got some fun projects lined up for the weekend, including getting to the glass cabinet makeover I spoke about a couple of weeks ago. I was going to work on it last weekend but then we decided to go camping and how can you pass up that? So this is the painting weekend. I’m can hardly wait to dig out my brushes and start working on this fun transformation!
Summer Cookbook Reading: One of my bridal shower gifts was this great cookbook, It’s All Good by Gwyneth Paltrow and Julia Turshen. I have her other book, My Father’s Daughter and enjoyed reading it, so I was really excited when I got this one too.
It’s full of recipes to help you detox a bit and feel great. I’m hoping to try one of them this weekend.
However…I did notice a typo in one of the weekly menu suggestions. See it there on Monday’s breakfast suggestion – actully vs. actually. Seeing this made me feel good because If Gwyneth can have a typo in her book, it’s okay about all the ones that are on this blog. I try to fix them when I can and I have a very handsome editor/husband to look through all my posts but sometimes we miss them.
Family Pride: Yesterday members of my extended family gathered together in Mono Mills, Ontario for a dedication. The Canadian government issued a plaque to commemorate my great great great great great grandfather, Jacob Rawn‘s service in the War of 1812. He came to Canada in 1804 from upstate New York and his family settled the area, created businesses and built a beautiful homestead. I would have loved to see the old family home and be there to hear all about the 210 years since he arrived. (CTV Barrie shared a short video on it). After visiting historic sites all over the world, it’s kind of cool to have one in your province dedicated to someone you came from.
…and on a final happy note for the weekend, here are some gratuitous shots of the dogs hanging out at the beach last weekend.
I just love these two little snuggle bugs so much.

What good things happened to you this week or what are you looking forward to most this weekend?

Whiskey & Cola are so adorable!
I bought a nice new reading lamp and a bed canopy from Ikea this week (I was pretty stoked) and my co-worker lent me this book called “Where We Belong” by Emily Giffin that I’ve been loving!
This weekend just looking forward to seeing some friends and my boyfriend for a housewarming party and just overall enjoying the sunshine.
Happy Weekend! 🙂

I always love getting new goodies from Ikea. It’s pretty much impossible to go there for “just one thing” and not come back with some fun new pieces. I’ve read a few of Emily Giffin’s books and that one sounds good. I’ll have to add it to my reading list!

I love that during a walk with your dogs you found those gorgeous wildflowers in a ditch. It just goes to show there is beauty in everything we just have to be ready to see it.
I’m sick in bed with a cold (it’s winter in Australia), but the silver lining is I get to spend more time snuggled up with my dog!

I’ve been loving all the winter posts on your blog lately, especially on days when it’s boiling hot here! Hope that you’re feeling better – and dogs really are the best nurses when you’re under the weather. It’s like they know that you could use the extra love 🙂

I like this new idea for your Friday favourites.
I keep a Gratitude Journal and just finished a 5 day Positivity Challenge on FB. You post 3 positive things for 5 days and nominate or invite 2 others to try it. I was surprised by how many people were totally resistant to trying it. ??
Continuous gratitude , especially during the crappy days is so essential.

Thanks Sheila! That’s a really cool idea about the positivity challenge and I’m surprised that people didn’t jump on board.

It’s a glass front cabinet that Garrett’s mom found me (it’s in a link under the paint picture). It turned out great and I can’t wait to share the results soon!
