Who’s ready for the weekend? I feel like this week kinda flew by and there is still so much on my to-do list. Do you ever feel like the week just gets away on you? I swear that it was like Tuesday just yesterday. Then I look at the photos below and I think about all the fun, good moments that make up our day-to-day lives. It’s about finding happiness in the little things.
A big thank you to everyone who left comments on last week’s Friday Favourites post. I loved hearing all about the good things that happened to you this week and your plans for the weekend. Please leave me a little message in the comments below. I’d love to hear them!

Sweet Treat: On the way home from a meeting last Friday I came across a bakery that makes decadent gourmet doughnuts and cupcakes that are all nut-free. I was in allergen-free heaven! I had an insanely good Mars Bar doughnut to get me through my last few afternoon tasks and talk about a sugar high. These cupcakes I shared with Garrett over the weekend – red velvet, vanilla and Mars Bar. So good and so decadent.
Drive-by Flower Gawker: I took a different route home last night and I passed this beautiful home with MASSIVE hydrangea bushes out front. They were well over five feet tall. So I did the only logical thing – I pulled my car over, walked back and took a pic. I just hope their neighbours didn’t see me. Big hydrangea bushes are on my future garden dream list someday. (I have a “Gardening” Pinterest board with a few ideas.)
Predictable Purchase: I was grocery shopping at Superstore, in the longest line ever, when I noticed a few pieces at Joe Fresh that caught my eye. I took them home – only to realize I had bought everything in various patterns of navy and cream. At least I don’t have to worry about doing too many different loads of laundry!
Rescue Mission: Before I took the final photos for the pool makeover I shared this week, I had to sweep the pool deck. While sweeping…I accidentally swept this sweet little moth into a crevice of the porch fence because I thought he was a leaf! As soon as I realized what he was, I grabbed a stick and gently started nudging him back out. My mom came outside just as I was verbally coaching him onto a leaf to move him to a safer place. I kept telling him “we can do this buddy, just hang on to the leaf”! I don’t know how he fared, but I hope that he was able to rest up for a flight later that night.
Breakfast Dates with the Hubs: Usually Garrett leaves the house at 5:25am (I don’t know how he does it), but thankfully this week he didn’t need to be in until later, so we’ve been enjoying hanging out together in the morning. I usually make my breakfast smoothie with berries, protein powder, ice and coconut milk, but I thought it would be fun to make him something different. That’s when I came across this Breakfast Coffee Protein Shake recipe from Amanda Tress from @fitparenting. I just toss it all into the mixer cup of our Ninja Blender (loooove it) and give it a whirl.
- 1 cup brewed coffee, chilled in the fridge overnight
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 3-4 ice cubes
Last Burst of Training: When we got back from the honeymoon road trip, I was all gungho to start training for the Warrior Dash run and then life got in the way. I’ve probably trained about 1-2 a week, but I’m worried that it really wasn’t enough – and now the race is this weekend. I’m not too worried about the obstacles…it’s the running in between to get to them that gets to me and my fear that I’ll slow my other team members down. When I told Garrett about this last night he reassured me that it’s all for fun and if we have to jog to the next obstacle together, he’s rather do it together, then race off ahead of me for some score. Seriously love that man.
Napping with the Pooches: Garrett snapped this photo one night after work this week when I thought I’d settle in for a little nap and Whiskey decided to join me. I just love his snuggles. While Cola loves to be close to you, he hasn’t quite mastered the art of staying still. Maybe someday he can join our naps for longer than five minutes.
