Autumn Halloween

The Pumpkin Toss

Its been a busy Fall and we’ve been a little delayed getting yard work done around my parents’ place, so the Jack-O-Lantern hadn’t been taken care of yet. For weeks it sat around the side of the house, waiting for that most ceremonious of tasks….

THE PUMPKIN TOSS

My brother is looking into the ravine around the back of the property…trying to spot the perfect spot to toss the sucker. He’s at the pitchers’ plate…

…he pushes forward…

…uses all his energy it toss it…will he make it?….

…and it didn’t cut it. Better luck next time, bro…we can’t win every year (I’m going to get a punch in the arm for that. To add to the paintball bruises he gave me yesterday…more on that soon.)

A final kick sends it flying down into the bottomless pit of the ravine. Well…really there is a bottom…but its full of twigs and mud and creepy crawly things. I don’t go down there anymore for obvious reasons (bugs. yuck.), but when we were all little that was our “forest” to navigate. We even build a tee-pee down there one time with knocked down trees, remnants of carpet from a home renovation, and some of my mom’s old sheets (don’t worry, they were donated to the cause…we didn’t raid the linen closet or anything). Now its just the graveyard of Jack-O-Lanterns, Christmas trees and lawn clippings.
With the pumpkin out of the way, now we can officially bring out the Christmas goodies. I’ve got lots of exciting things coming up here at SHBS in the next couple of weeks, so stick around!
