Friends Hometown Party Wedding

Hometown Bridal Shower

Last weekend I headed up to my hometown to attend the bridal shower for my old high school friend, Sarah. In my mind she will forever be the super smart, curly haired girl with the big smile, but soon she will also become the Mrs of her high school sweetheart. I can’t wait to see her walk down the aisle next month and start the next chapter of her life.

Me, Ash, Sarah and Kim have all been friends for years, and I could probably find a picture just like this one from 10 years ago if I did some digging.

There were many of her friends and family there who I didn’t know, but they were all fantastic women, with great stories about the bride-to-be.

Sarah and her equally beautiful sister and maid of honour. She definitely stepped up to her sisterly duties, with lots of fun games, good food and of course plenty of quirky jokes. What can I say, I like the girl’s sense of humour.

But after everyone was piled into the living room with punch in hand, it was time to open PRESENTS! 🙂
I absolutely love this gorgeous handmade picture frame. The simple design and rustic feel of the wood created a unique piece that Sarah will be sure to have for years to come. Turns out that her soon-to-be-father-in-law actually made her a similar piece that is a mirror, which kind of works out perfectly. Almost like its meant to be.
One of my favorite gifts she was given was from her mother – a themed teatowel for every holiday! This was right up my alley. I actually called my mother and great aunt about it because I liked it so much. There was one for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas, etc. How cute!
The ever practical and chic bamboo bowl.
I see some fantastic Caesar salads in her future!
Ash just had to model how great these plush towels. How scandalous 😉
There is no such thing as too much tupperware.

Kim got started on making Sarah a bonnet out of a paper plate and all the ribbons from the gifts.

Kim really got into her little craft project. Just wait until you get married, Kim. I’m going to buy the biggest most tacky ribbon I can find for your gift.
Champagne glasses from her future mother-in-law.
Another set of ultra plush towels, which Sarah kindly demonstrated how to use.

And now for the gift from us girls.
Hmmm, I wonder what it could be…
We ended up getting her the Maison Dinnerware from Crate & Barrel that she really wanted. Its a beautiful set with a great modern feel that will look right at home in her new kitchen.
Last, but far from least, Sarah opened the gift from her extremely talented sister. Its a beautifully hand drawn book all about their engagement, showers, wedding etc, with room for more pages 🙂
Where there were no pictures of the bridal shower yet obviously, so her sister had put in little drawings of Sarah opening presents and getting trapped under an avalanche of gifts. That sounds more gruesome than the picture was. It was cute. I swear.

The ribbon bonnet was finally done, thanks to all of Kim’s handiwork. (I know first hand how crafty she really is. We once make miniature clapboards for centerpieces at a semi formal in high school. Complete with chalkboard fronts and clapping arms. Sooooo much easier said than done.)

The bride-to-be in her ribbon bonnet and pink sash.

A bonefide Scarlett O’Hara if you ask me.

After the presents were all unwrapped it was time to dig into all the wonderful food Sarah’s mother made. It was hard to resist all the great smells.
I think that these little tomato, mozzarela and basil bites are to die for. Perfect for an afternoon luncheon like this, and would be just as fantastic at an evening cocktail party.
My favourite was the little cucumber cups with veggie sticks in them. How darling are these? You can even put a little dollop of dip in there to make a handy little appetizer guests can carry around.
And the chefs behind these delicious creations:
Bride, Maid of Honour and Mother of the Bride.
And what is a party without a little bit of cake?

We also played a few bridal-themed games along the way, including the longest game of Bingo ever played. Seriously, it took so long for someone to get Bingo, that I thought the game was rigged. It actually made it even more stressful because at the very end everyone was just a couple of squares away from winning. There were lots of fun gifts to be won, as Sarah and Ashley are modeling here à la Vanna White.
But Ashley didn’t win, so she started to pout.
Then we found one last prize and gave it to her anyways for being such a good sport 🙂

And what did I win?
Super good smelling foam bath for a nice soak in the tub.
Looking forward to using this!

However, I sort of cheated after the shower and went and bought this little pot that one of the other girls won. I peaked at the bottom and saw it was from HomeSense, so I just happened to drive by and pop in to see if maybe they had any left. And this was the last one there! At only $3!

Perfect as a little butter dish, or for putting in a nice chutney or salsa when I have guests over. But most of all it was cute, and thats what gets me. The cuteness.

All-in-all, it was a really nice day spent with some dear friends, and I am so stoked for Sarah and the exciting adventures awaiting her 🙂

Amanda, thanks for your comment on my art room today! I have to say that the tomato bites do look scrumptious. I may have to try making some of those…
