In March I shared a few pictures of what my alma mater, Queen’s University, looks like in the winter, but now I thought I’d show you what it looked like this past weekend. Its rare that I’m in Kingston in such nice weather, so it was a treat to walk around campus and admire all the buildings and gardens.
I love the campus in the summer when the limestone buildings are covered in ivy.
All the ivy covered buildings is one of the many reasons that Queen’s University is called the “Havard of the North”, a title we fight over with our rival, McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Both schools have rich histories of academic excellence, athletic competition and school pride, and with only three hours separating us, we’ve been natural rivals since the laste 1800s.
Walking through through campus to Film House just like in the good ole’ days.
Me, Fleur, Eve and Ashley in front of Film House.
This is one of the editing rooms that I spent MANY hours in. Film House is like a second home to all the film students. I’ve been here at all hours of the day and night editing up a storm.
Ashley and Fleur in the “Green Room” where they spent weeks edited a television pilot in our last year. I once spent thee days locked in here with Al working on an animation project. Its a true testament to our friendship that we survived it (although we may have gotten slightly crazed by the end and started singing old television jingles.)
“Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener”
While we were already on campus, we decided to pop into the new Queen’s Centre and see the incredible new gyms and pools. We were super jealous of how great the facilities are now. Of course they had to make it nice after we left!
We couldn’t help going into the new locker room to admire the showers (they work!) and the big locker spaces (they actually lock!), at which point Fleur’s change purse broke loose and spilled all over the floor.
Good team work ladies! Please note that instead of helping pick up all the coins, I decided to just document it instead 😉
Heading back to where we were staying, we passed through all of the student houses. I love the student ghetto at Queen’s because they are these big beautiful houses that are just run down and full of students. They have lots of character, and are full of lots of characters too 😉
There are always some interesting sights along the way.
This is the park right next to my old house. My housemates used to go there to eat peanut butter so that they could still get their fix even though we couldn’t have it in the house. They did this for an entire year before I found out. I think its super sweet that they did that so they didn’t kill me 🙂
And here is the house I lived in while I was at Queen’s. For three years I stayed in a little room just behind that window on the ground floor by the addition – and I loved it.
Home Sweet Home 🙂
Right across the street was the Brock-Nelson Pantry where we bought some of our groceries, but now it seems to have been sold and made into a Convenience Stop. I would often run across the street in pyjamas and boots (across three lanes of one way traffic no less) to get a carton of milk. I have no shame when I need milk for my cereal.
We stopped by Eve’s old house too. She reminisced about playing guitar on the porch in the backyard, which is sadly gone now. Coming back to find things changed is the hardest part. You want it to stay the same as it was when you were there. I remember going by my old place one time and they had retiled the front entrance and kitchen. It was a huge improvement, but still a little sad to see the dingy old orange tile go.
Fleur peeked into her old place too, but no one was home.
Although I have no desire to be a university student again, it was nice to go back and remember all the great times we had while we were there.

You are hilarious. I can’t believe you posted the photos where I dropped my change all over the ground. I’m a such a klutz.
