Christmas Decor Holidays

It feels like Christmas!

This past weekend I finally found the time to decorate my apartment for Christmas. Despite always being a “silver” kind of girl, I went with red and gold this year for a colour scheme.

I tucked away the picture frame that normally hangs here and swapped it for a big beautiful wreath. I made it with a wreath form ($8) and ribbon ($3) from Michaels, along with some plastic gold balls that I picked up at the dollar store ($2). Not too shabby for only $13!

I used some of the extra ribbon to tie some bows on the Candle Holders I made this Fall. I also gave my beloved Maltese Falcon his own little Santa hat.

I originally had planned to purchase a live tree, but then I realized how little I would get to enjoy it over the next month as I drive back and forth from family events up north, so I gave in and bought a new artificial tree from Canadian Tire (On sale, $70). Its an indoor/outdoor Fraser Fir with pre-strung lights and cute pinecones glued onto it, so I figured that I can use it again in the future for an outdoor decoration when I get a house.

I decorated the tree with gold and red Christmas balls in various sizes, red fake holly and little handsewn gingerbread men ornaments.

I’ll be posting the tutorial on how to make these cute little guys next week!

While digging through my big box of Christmas stuff, I happened to find this star made out of twigs. It was easy to convert it to a tree topper, but removing the ribbon loop and then using florist wire to tie it to the top branch.

Whiskey has really been loving the tree this year and keeps hitting the Christmas balls with his nose. Sometimes I catch him, but other times I just see little wet nose marks.

In the kitchen, I kept it simple by using my favorite candy cane runner and a candle holder filled with pinecones around a beautiful smelling beeswax candle.

Oh how I love the smell of beeswax!

I decided that I needed to cozy up the bedroom for the Holidays too, so I bought some ridiculously warm red plaid flannel sheets (Sears, $50) and made a few new pillow covers.

For the little pillow, I used an old white knit sweater that I was destined for the landfill. With the larger pillows, I found a wool lining at the fabric store that reminded me of faux fur, but at HALF the cost!

On the bedside, I have a cute little red bird I made out of a sweater that was accidentally felted when it was thrown in the washer. (Note to self: Never ask male members of your family to do laundry….ever ever again).

Whiskey is particularly found of it and occasionally I find him snuggled up in bed with this. He hasn’t chewed it yet though, thankfully.

Even if he did, I don’t think I’d get too mad at him. I’m in just in too good a mood with the Holidays come up!

Have you got any decorations up yet?
