A New Year and a Clean Slate!

There is a reason why people have this desire to make New Year Resolutions. With the stroke of midnight there stands a new year that is open to possibilities. Its feels like a good time to evaluate the year gone by and reassess what we hope to accomplish in the coming year.

This year I decided to write up some quotes to represent the goals that I have for this year and post them on my refrigerator door. I figure that this will be a daily reminder to keep on task.

“I don’t know the key to success,
but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.”
– Bill Cosby

I have a habit of trying to make time for everyone, often at the expense of my own rest. I know that I do this to myself. I overbook my weeks and try to fit in as much as I can, but it isn’t healthy to not give yourself time to just do nothing. No expectations. No plans. Just pure relaxation. So my new resolution is to take a couple of evenings a week where I do nothing and go nowhere. The idea of coming home from work, making dinner, relaxing and then going to bed early is so alluring, that I’m already looking forward to it.

“Health is a relationship between you and your body.”
 -Terri Guillemets

Over the past year I have become much better at taking care of myself and I want to continue this going forth in the future. I want to continue taking Pilates and strength training classes and continue improving the health of my mind and body. I’m also hoping to start training for a triathlon in the Spring and join my love of swimming, biking and now running too. Having a goal like that to focus on is a great motivation to keep growing and improving.

“A penny saved is a penny earned.”
– Benjamin Franklin

I am generally very careful with my money, but over the next year I would like to be able to put more away on a more regular basis. Ideally I’d like to get my own house in a few years and the more that I can save now, the better I will be when that time comes. I still want to live the full life that I love so much right now, but I’m much more open to finding more economically ways to spend time with friend, cook meals and enjoy the free things that my city has to offer. Here comes the coupon clipping!

I’m hoping that by keeping these little quotes on the fridge, it will keep me on task during the year. What methods do you helping you keep your resolutions?

Great resolutions, Amanda! I just generally keep my resolutions simple and few and think about them for a while before making them. That’s my “strategy”, if you want to call it that!
    Happy New Year!
