Recipe

Berry Chocolate Chip Frozen Yogurt

I love frozen yogurt, but it is very hard to find any that is safe for someone like me with nut allergies. For years I’ve dreamt of buying an ice cream maker, but alas, the Itty Bitty Kitchen doesn’t have room for any such luxuries. After some extensive searching online (okay, maybe five minutes) I found a number of recipes that made frozen yogurt without a machine. Bingo! Now I’m hooked and I’m already brainstorming new ideas for flavours.

I had hoped to get a better picture of this, but it was gone way too fast. So delicious and creamy, with a  great combination of tart berries and yummy chocolate chips.

What you’ll need:
3 cups Frozen Berries (I used an Antioxidant Fruit Blend)
2 cups Low Fat Plain Yogurt
1/3 cup Sugar
1 1/2 Vanilla Extract
1/2 cup Mini Chocolate Chips

In a food processor, combine berries, yogurt, sugar and vanilla until smooth.

Transfer mixture to a 9 x 13 inch pan and place in the freezer and stir every few hours until the mixture is firm on the edges and almost firm in the middle, about 2-6 hours. If you use fresh berries, it will take longer to freeze.

Transfer back to the food processor and process until smooth. Transfer to an airtight container, stir in chocolate chips, seal and freeze until you’re ready to serve. I made half of the mixture with half of the chocolate chips in the recipe and then I made the other half without because Garrett doesn’t like frozen pieces of chocolate (which I think is insane.)

If you want to experiment with your own frozen yogurt flavours but without having to buy an expensive machine, this is the way to do it. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!
