Summer

Farmers Market Favorites

For me, Farmers Markets are one of the best parts of Ontario Summers. We get to get out and enjoy the best of our local produce and I relish being able to walk around and see all the inspiring goodies.

Right away I made a beeline for the big produce displays. Everything was giving me great ideas for recipes to make.

I’ve never tried to cook anything with Okra, but its always been on my to do list. As everyone knows, I have a love of oven roasted vegetables and I’m itching to make this recipe of Roasted Okra. I can just imagine how it would bring out the flavour.

Raspberries. Oh how I love thee. These colourful pints reminded me of the deliciously tart Raspberry Lime Bread that I made a month ago. I’ll definitely be trying it again.

Cucumbers for pickling! I’ve never made pickles myself, but I know people who swear by doing it themselves. Maybe some day I’ll try to make them when its not just Garrett and I trying to eat them all.

Update: Easy Garlic Dill Refrigerator Pickles

Fragrant Ontario Strawberries. How great would these be in little mini pies?
These big heirloom eggplants were just begging to be made into Baked Eggplant Parmesan.

Speaking of big…look at this gigantic zucchini that we found there. The lady was selling it for $3 which was a great deal considering how huge it was. I could have had enough zucchini to make Chocolate Zucchini Muffins, Zucchini Lasagna, Grilled Zucchini, Kebabs, Zucchini Lasagna Bowls, and still have more left over!

It wasn’t just the veggies that had me smiling though. I also got to meet some lovely four legged friends like this cute little Boston Terrier named “Charlie”. He looked just as happy as me to be there 🙂

But maybe it was because he could smell the kettle corn being made. Ever since I tried it last year, I’ve become a big fan. How did I go so long without it?

I’m off to enjoy the last day of this wonderful long weekend before I have to go back to reality. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have three day weekends all the time?
