One of the things I look forward to the most in the Fall are all the great new TV shows that premiere. I’m a huge dork when it comes to the new TV season and for years I have made a schedule every Fall, that lists all the new and old shows I want to see. Family and friends know about “The Schedule” and I often get requests for it every September. Here is this year’s schedule, listing the channels and premiere dates (for Canada).
First of all, I want you all to know that I don’t watch 20 hours of TV a week. I may start off with 12 new shows on the list, but by the second or third week in, I’m down to about 4-5 new shows and maybe 10 returning shows. I’ll let myself fall behind in them and then on some Sunday morning, I’ll watch them all online while working on a project. Usually I find a couple of shows that I really love and I start pushing them on people (How I Met Your Mother!) and sometimes I need encouragement, like with Glee. My sister had to push me to get past episode one and then I was hooked.
This year, I’ve noticed that most of my new shows have a “girlie” theme. Some years its all medical dramas, others it is buddy cop comedies, it really depends on what is out there.
New Girl (FOX)
Up All Night (NBC)
Christina Applegate and Will Arnell?!?! Comedy gold.
Hart of Dixie (CW)
A big city doc begrudgingly heading to the South to run a practice she has inherited. Culture clash aside, this should be an interesting drama. Plus you’ll get to see hot men in cowboy hats.
This feels like a modern-day Laverne & Shirley to me and I can’t wait to see how it plays out.
Charlie’s Angels (ABC)
Everyone needs a good butt-kicking show once in awhile and these girls pack a punch. This will probably end up being the show I watch while biking in the morning. I need something with action and fun characters!
Both stories revolve around the idea that the storybook world and the real world are one and the same. It will be interesting to see which one comes out on top.
I Hate My Teenage Daughter (FOX)
Every since My Name Is Earl went off the air, I’ve been missing Jamie Pressley. Now she’s back with a new comedy that plays up the differences between mothers and daughters. It should be a fun one to see!
A few others I’ve thrown in the mix to see what they’re like:
How To Be A Gentleman (CBS) – A modern day Odd Couple with Kevin Dillion (Entourage)
Pan Am (ABC) – Lives and loves of the iconic 60s stewardesses. Christina Ricci!
Last Man Standing (ABC) – Tim Allen’s new comedy, might be a dud, but I loved Home Improvement.
The Playboy Club (NBC) – 60s set drama chronicles the lives of the first Playboy bunnies.
The Secret Circle (CW) – The Vampire Diaries but with witches – count me in!
Ringer (CW) – Sarah Michelle Gellar’s back! And plays troubled twins.
RETURNING
Of course I’m also looking forward to some of my favorite shows coming back!
30 Rock
Tina Fey is amazing and the rest of the cast of this hit show bring their A game as well. What will they do next?
Cougar Town
You know that show that you call your sister to talk about this week’s episode? Well, this is that show for my sister and I. Whether its a funny scene or a remix of a favorite line, we both love this show. And I want Jules’ kitchen…really bad.
The Vampire Diaries
My guilty pleasure. A New England town with supernatural beings and plenty of drama – I’m there. Plus the vampire brothers are hot, in that I’ve-been-undead-for-a-hundred-years kinda way.
Chuck
My inner nerd comes out with this show. Combine that with some great action and goofy comedy and you’ve got the perfect show to watch while biking in the apartment. I also have a crush on Zachary Levi.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
These people are horribly self-centered and morally corrupt, but they really don’t care. I always feel better about myself after watching this. And I’ve usually laughed until my stomach hurts, so its an ab workout as well, right?
Big Bang Theory
Another show that my sister convinced me to catch up on. I watched the first season in about 2 days last Spring and then I was hooked.
The new dysfunctional family comedy, but with an extra cute baby in the mix – and Cloris Leachman as the senile grandma.
Parks and Recreation
This reminds me so much of trying to get anything done through the local government in my hometown. And I love Leslie Knope.
The Office
I love love love this show and have for years (including the British original). I can’t wait to see where the storylines go this year, but I’m going to miss Steve Carrell as Michael Scott.
