Its that time of year again when the Toronto International Film Festival starts to roll into town. (For recaps of 2010, go here and here). I’m unfortunately going to miss some of it, but I did get to score a ticket to the opening night party on Thursday.
As has been tradition for the past few years, I got to go with two of my favorite people in the world – Justin and Eve. We all went to film school together and in the four years since then, we’ve become even better friends. We also ran into a bunch of friends we know from the film festival, school and our jobs. However, the most exciting run-in we had was a brief moment at the beginning of the night. While coming into the building, there was a big back up of people at the entrance to the catering area. At first we thought it was because the party was so big in that room, but soon we realized that it was someone trying to push their way out…

Yup, it was Bono and The Edge trying to make their way out of the party. If I’d reached my arm out, I could have touched Bono. It was crazy. We just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
Its no secret that I’m a huge Diet Coke fan, so I was excited when I saw that they were one of the sponsors this year. They had this great ice sculpture that the bartenders poured drinks through – how crazy is that? Justin was a big fan too. (remember the hockey rink with vodka shots from last year?)
The Diet Coke bar had some really fun cocktail ideas, including my favourite which combined Raspberry Lemonade, Vodka and Diet Coke. It was quite tasty!
It was great to get dressed up and visit with old friends. I’m going to miss not going to more parties this year and seeing some of the films. Its an exciting time of year to be in Toronto.
I think that Whiskey is going to miss the festival too. He loved it when he got to go other years.
On his daily walk, we used to run into celebrities all the time, like the always dashing George Clooney.
Or even the ever talented Jeff Bridges. I bet most little dogs can’t say that they’ve seen all these people!
