Film

Last Day of Filming

I’ve mentioned this in passing a few times on the blog, but the past six months I’ve been working as the Producer on a short film that has been filming downtown. Most of our shoot was done in a warehouse on a set we had built, but there were still a few more outdoor scenes to shoot.

And this is where we got to do it!

After a long drive up from the city, we all met at a boat launch and headed out on a semi-deserted lake. The youngest actress in our film was quite excited about the prospect of seeing bears and deer. I even got to see a black bear up close when we drove by one. I at first thought that it was a large black dog, but I was definitely mistaken.

After a quick jaunt across the lake, we arrived at our location. This little cabin was our headquarters during the shoot, where we stored all the gear and made our meals.

There was also a lovely rope swing that kept the younger talent entertained.

Most of the scenes were filmed from a boat, with just the director, cinematographer and actresses. The rest of us stayed safely on shore and watched the process from the comfort of the dock.

It wasn’t too shabby spending a day sitting around and enjoying the scenery. It was so quiet and calm out there with barely anyone else on the lake with us.

Aside from relaxing on the dock, my other job was to roast some quail for a bonfire scene.

The director’s dog was sure to hang around me in case I dropped a quail or two.

Between takes, everyone enjoyed the lake, whether it was going for a canoe ride or skipping rocks.

After a long day, we all headed back across the lake to the boat launch. It was quite the bumpy ride over rapids and through narrows, but a fun finish to a great shoot.

I wish every day at work was here!
The film will probably be premiering in the new year and I’m hoping I’ll get to share it with you all here. Its been a long process, but I think its going to turn out great!
