Outdoors

Hiking Near Our New Home

When I first told my Toronto friends that I was leaving the city, they thought I was crazy. “What about all the culture? The nightlife? The shopping?”. But I knew I wanted to go back to something quieter and simplier.

I wanted to live somewhere that I could take a 10 minute walk and end up here. No traffic. No streetcars honking. No cyclists whizzing by. Just pure, quiet nature.

We’re lucky that our new apartment is right by a number of forests and parks with great hiking trails.

I’d trade in a loud walk downtown for this any day…and I did.

Garrett and Whiskey love this too. Just a man and his dog out for an afternoon walk.

I think that this little guy loves it the most out of all of us. There are so many noises and smells to keep him interested. He spends his walks on full alert.

You never know when a squirrel might run by that needs to be chased. I’m very thankfully for strong leashes, or this little guy would be long gone, chasing everything he can.

Garrett loves it too. No matter how crazy and hectic our lives can get right now, we can still find time to grab a coffee and go exploring around our area. We’ve already got a map of new trails to try out before the snow hits.

Every time we go for a walk, I can feel the tension of the day melt away.

I’m looking forward to winter walks too, but I’d still like it to stay like this as long as possible. The whole forest is full of beauitfully coloured leaves.

♥

There is so much life and change here.

There are also some creepy areas of the woods that are perfect for Halloween. Doesn’t this look like something from a horror movie?

Creepy! And just in time for this weekend.

how pretty! it’s so nice to have nature close by. i do have to drive to get to the hiking trails around here but it’s a pretty quick trip.
