Moving

One Month In

I’m sitting here at my desk on my lunch break (eating leftover tortellini, yum), when I realized that I’ve been working at my new job for a month already. It seems that the past 30 days had flown by, but thankfully the butterflies didn’t stick around much longer than the first week. I was so nervous in those first few days.

It was my first time at a “new job” in over four years and in a different industry no less (but I still have my foot in the door for film too, just in case). I think I slept no more than 4 hours each night because I was so worried I’d sleep through my alarm/get caught in traffic/forget my lunch. I seriously I nightmares of paperwork going missing after my first big meeting. Didn’t actually happen to me, but the fear was still there.

Now things are much calmer, even with a greater workload. I went from an office with no co-workers (unless Whiskey counts) to being in the same room as five people and another seven in the rest of the office. I have to admit that this is my favourite part of this new job. I come in every day looking forward to talking to them about what everyone is up to, having people to brainstorm with and even talking about the ordinary everyday stuff like weather (a common topic of conversation around here). Its a welcome break from when the only person I saw was the TTC bus driver on my way to and from work.

I’m also very excited for my new shorter commute after I officially move this weekend. Now it takes me over an hour to get to and from work, but soon it will be half that time. Which means that they’re be more time for afternoon baking with Whiskey and extra time for biking in the morning (or lets be honest…sleeping).

Every job has its trials and tribulations, but for the most part I really like my new job. Even if it means I’ve had to change from jeans and t-shirts to dress pants and sweaters. Secretly, I’m actually starting to like having to get dressed up nice in the morning. Putting in a little bit of effort makes me feel much better.

Well, lunch break is over and I better get back to work. I have lots to get done this afternoon and then I’m off to the old apartment for more packing and cleaning. I must say I’ll be glad when this part of the move is over!
