I’ve been really neglecting my garden the past couple mouths as I handle all these crazy (and exciting) transitions, but I was pleasantly surprised to come home and find that some of it was still doing great.
In fact, despite the neglect and hot weather this Summer, the garden seems to be flourishing!
For much of June and July, these impatients looked sad and droopy, but now they’re full and vibrant.
But its the zinnias that have been the real winner this Summer. The just keep coming up with these stellar blooms that have so vibrant and gorgeous. I’ve even been cutting some and giving them to friends to put in vases. I’ll definitely be growing them next year.
Just that thought gets me excited for what I’ll grow next Summer at the new apartment. There are actually a couple of little gardens in our yard already that seem to have been well cared for, so it will be nice to see what comes out of that. I also hope to grow a pot of strawberries again (which was such a treat) and maybe even a few more food plants (tomatoes? peppers? zucchini?).
I’ll have lots to brainstorm and think about in the cold winter months, but next Spring I hope to get my hands dirty again. I really loved having this garden and I’m so thankful to Marlee, at Homestead Garden Growers for giving me all these thoughtful selections. I’ll be heading back there as soon as the ground thaws!
