Recipe

Cookies Make Everything Better

Between the new job, apartment hunting and house-sitting for my parents, its been a busy September.
However, it been nice to come home to these three goofballs every night.
And when things got really crazy, I decided to de-stress by baking some Good Medicine Lodge Montana cookies emailed to me by my bloggy friend Rachel at A Cupcake for Moose . I knew they’d be good, but I didn’t realize they’d be THIS good! I changed them a bit for my nut allergy by swapping walnuts for raisins, but other than that, I kept to the recipe and I’m glad I did.

Good Medicine Lodge Montana Cookies

Total preparation time: 17 minutes
Serves: 15

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2  cups oats
  • 1 cup raisins or chopped walnuts
  • 12oz (2 cups) chocolate chips or Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate squares (cut into chunks)
Steps:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugars. Beat in eggs and vanilla till very light and fluffy.
2. Combine baking powder, baking soda, salt and flour Mix dry ingredients together with butter mixture until blended.
3. Mix in oats, raisins/walnuts and chocolate.
4. Use 1/4 cup of batter per each. Bake on a cookie sheet for ~12-14 minutes until golden brown.
The cookie dough was so good that Garrett was actually eating it off a spoon. They baked up perfectly chewy and full of great flavour.

I will definitely be making these again soon!

On a final note for this Friday morning, I wanted to share this great candid photo I got that night of Garrett and Whiskey in the same pose on the couch. Don’t they both look so comfortable. And probably full of cookie dough too.
Hope you all have a great Friday! I’m excited to head home tonight and start the packing!

Yay! They look SOOO good! I’m thrilled that you and Garrett enjoyed the cookies. They are definitely a favorite in our household, too.

P.S. LOVE the candid of Whiskey and your Mr. Garrett. They are such cute buddies!

Glad to read your post about the Good Medicine Lodge Cookies. I love that you adapted it to your needs! My original recipe a smaller cookie (dropped by teaspoon) which contained oats, raisins and pecans – a recipe given to me by my next door neighbor when I was in first grade. I still make the original for my family. When we bought Good Medicine Lodge in 2002, we wanted a cookie that was Montana sized and would hold up well in a cookie jar so we made adjustments until we came up with the recipe you received from Rachel. Come to our B&B and we will bake cookies together!

Thanks for stopping by Betsy! I love your recipe and use it all the time (just made a batch this week for a friend’s housewarming!) If Garrett and I ever make it out to Montana, we’ll be sure to stop by and say hi…and bake up a batch together 🙂
