Apartment Birthday Family

Our First Dinner Guests

On Sunday night we had our first dinner guests over – my parents! It was my Dad’s birthday and with everyone else off at university, we thought it would be nice to have them over for dinner to celebrate. Despite having been on my own for almost four years, this is the first time that I’ve had my parents over for a homecooked meal. Every time they came down to the city we were either going somewhere and ordered in take out, or we went to one of the many great restaurants nearby in Little Italy. I wish I’d taken a picture of dinner, but I forgot! We had homemade Chicken Schnitzel with Buttery Mashed Potatoes and Honey Glazed Carrots. Delish!

It was an extra special dinner because we got to eat it on my newly refinished dining room table. Over Thanksgiving weekend, my Dad helped me refinish this table (more on that soon) and I’ve been eagerly waiting for its arrival.

My sweet mother also brought us flowers, which went perfect with the Fall decor I set out.

I ♥ daisies.
For dessert, I made an Oreo Chocolate Fudge Cake that was amazing.
(The recipe will be up later this week!)
The birthday boy seemed to be quite happy with it!
Slowly, but surely the place is starting to come together, and having a dining room table is a big step already. We’ve got alot to do still, but every little step feels so much better. I’ll be sure to post pictures as it comes along!
