Christmas Craft Tutorial Decor Holidays Party

Wine Glass Lanterns

The lovely Sherry of Young House Love and Katie of Bower Power are at it again with their latest Pinterest Challenge!

Last month’s move has left little time for any crafting, but I thought I’d use this as an opportunity to get my butt in gear and actually make one of the things I’ve been pinning on Pinterest.

Lately I’ve been pinning ideas for a Holiday Housewarming Party that I’ve thinking of hosting sometime next month. When I saw these adorable Wine Glass Lanterns on Casos e Coisas da Bonfa I knew I wanted to try making them to add some light to one of the food tables. They’re easy, customizable, inexpensive and a nice way to dress up a table or room for a party.

I can’t read Spanish (and anyone who was in my university course for it can verify that for you), but crafting is a universal language and the instructions were pretty easy to follow.

First I printed out this template and used it to cut out the shade on vellum paper. This is much safer than regular paper, which can catch on fire easily.

I decided to make a little dotted pattern along the edges.

Next time I think I’ll try to decorate the template using Photoshop and print Holiday images right onto the shade. I’m thinking holly with leaves, or maybe even snowflakes.

To put together the shade, just slip the tabs into the slots.

I tested it out on the wine glass to see how it looked. So far so good!

Now all you need to do is light a candle and put the shade on.

Ta-da! A beautiful and simple Wine Glass Lantern!

I love the glow that it gives off and I’m hoping to make a bunch of these for the party, with different pattern lanterns, at different heights. It’ll look great nestled amongst all the food and goodies!

Now that I’ve got the Pinterest bug, I’m looking for more ideas for the new apartment. Now that we’re all moved in I want to decorate!

Be sure to check out Sherry, Katie, Ana, and Erin‘s Pinterest projects as well. These ladies are serious DIY All Stars!

So cute and easy! And don’t be ashamed you couldn’t read that website. It’s actually Portuguese!

Oops! That just shows how clueless I am with languages. Thanks for letting me know 🙂

Can you please share the size of the template? I tried to get it and I can’t determine the size..
