Gift Ideas Recipe

Personalizing a Fortune Cookie

It’s always nice when you can find a special gift to give someone to brighten their spirits and it doesn’t hurt when it is also quick and inexpensive. These personalized fortune cookie make a great Birthday/Get Well/Valentine’s Day/”Just Thinking About You” gift and take very little time to make.

I packaged up mine in a plastic “take out” container I picked up a gift wrap store, but you could also bundle these up in little baggies with a ribbon, or in a decorative tin.

What you’ll need for this project:

  • Store bought fortune cookies (I found them in the Asian aisle at the grocery store)
  • White Paper, cut into 3″x1/2″ strips
  • Paper Towel
  • Microwavable Plate
  • Microwave
Cut paper into about 3″x1/2″ size strips and write your own fortunes:

The best is yet to come
Thanks for letting my out of that cookie
Your future is sweet
You’re the best
You will eat a very delicious cookie

Dampen a paper towel, wring it out a bit and then wrap it around a cookie, placing it on a microwaveable plate. Pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds.

The cookie will be much more pliable now that it is “steamed”, but if it doesn’t open up right away, try to zap it for another 20 seconds. When you open it up you’ll be able to pop out the old fortune and put your own fortune inside.

Press the edges back together, refold the cookie and hold in place for 30 seconds. Allow to cool and dry on a plate for a 10 minutes.

Once your cookies are all done and have cooled, place them in a fun container!
