Garage Sale Find – A $15 Dresser

This past weekend, I headed out for an early morning pedicure (before we headed to the wedding!). I love living in a town where I can walk to where I want to go, because it meant that on the way back home I popped into a couple little shops along the way.

Just as I start to head home, I spotted a garage sale down the street from the shop. I figured I had 5 minutes to spare and maybe I’d find something interesting. Sure enough, under the many layers of toys and worn out kids clothes, I spotted a small little dresser in need of a little TLC.

I knew I couldn’t carry it home alone (especially with a freshly painted pedicure!), so I called Garrett and he came to help me. For $15, we walked away with this little beauty.

The plan is to have it here in our hall area, so that we have some storage when we come in the door, and it gives Garrett some dresser space, because right now all his stuff is in bins on a rack in the closet.

The dresser is skinny enough that we still have plenty of room to walk past it when we come in the house.

It will also be a nice spot to add a little lamp to this area, or some fun decor. I put a little pitcher of flowers, a driftwood canoe and some chevron fabric for a runner until I can figure out what to put on there. Right above it, I’m going to put up a gallery wall. I have the frames and just need to get all the pictures ready.

I want to change up the handles to something a little sleeker and I was going to paint it, but now I am torn. I kind of like the finish now that I have it home. If I do paint it, I’m looking for something subtle (no bright red or super dark colours!) Right now my colour scheme through the whole apartment has been slowly evolving to a combination of green, blues, tans and browns, so I’d like to stick to something that compliments those colours.

I’ve thought of doing something fun like this grey and white striped dresser, but maybe it would be too busy in our small space.

I’m leaning more towards a green like this, but maybe a little more subtle.

I just love the way it makes the handles stand out a little bit, and it would go great with the decor in the other rooms.

I could also do a baby blue, or almost a subtle blue wash over white.

Maybe something like this?

But probably my favourite colour out of all of them is this muted turquoise blue colour.

So what do you think? Keep it as it is, or give it a little paint?

What a great find! I’d paint it. Love the muted turquoise blue.

What a great find! I’d definitely paint it blue – the makeovers you posted look amazing – and I think it would definitely fit in with your decor. The last 2 dressers you posted are my favorites – amazing how much difference paint and different handles can make!
