A couple of weekends ago Whiskey and his doggy friend Keela headed out to the park for an adventure.
A local outdoor pool had decided to open up for a doggie swim day before they shut down for the season. For $5 they could come and go swimming all day.
There were dogs EVERYWHERE. I’ve never seen so many dogs in water together.
They were running in and out, frolicking in the sunshine.
Others just flopped down for a float.
Many of them were running in to get balls and frisbees thrown in.
And others just ran along the beach side as a pack.
Garrett tried to get Whiskey to go in for a dip.
He just swam along the edge, looking for a place to escape.
Poor little fella is not a big fan of water, but he was tempted to follow Keela in a few times.
Most of them time, he just hung out with the lifeguard.
Or came up for a little snuggle to stay warm after a swim.
Then he would get a second wind and run a lap around the pool with a new friend.
Or stand off to the side, out of the range of all the splashing.
There was lots of mutual sniffing with the other dogs.
Tons of sniffing.
Especially with big dogs. Whiskey loves big dogs and obviously doesn’t realize that he is 11lbs and not a great dane.
On the other hand, Keela had a fantastic time at the pool, always waiting for someone to throw a ball.
And when someone threw a ball, five dogs would go jumping in to get it.
But Keela always managed to bring a ball back…even if it wasn’t the one you threw.
She was definitely having a blast.
One of my favourite parts was seeing all the different dogs that came out. There were some that looked like giant bears.
Others were fluffy and energetic.
While some were young and cute. Oh so cute.
There were some guide dogs in training.
And a couple of dogs that I thought would make a great sibling for Whiskey. Isn’t he so soft and scraggly looking?
We even saw dogs with bigger ears than Whiskey.
And some that looked like they had no ears at all.
But one thing is that I’ve never seen so many dogs so happy…trotting along with a ball in their mouth.
Even if he was nervous about the water, it was a great day out with our little buddy.
There were booths set up with some great products too. We were able to pick up lots of samples to try.
But Whiskey was only interested in sniffing more dogs. People always think he is a chihuahua, but look at how much bigger he actually is than them.
Then the great dane came back over and stole the whole show. The chihuahuas were scared of him, but Whiskey showed no fear. He just wanted to sniff.
And I have to admit that I was pretty excited about the Great Dane too. I loved the grey harlequin patterns on him, and he was such a sweet and gentle giant.
All-in-all, it was one of the best dog events I’ve ever been to. So much fun for both dogs and owners. Hopefully we can do it again next Fall!

oh Amamda such a sweet post. Love all of them big or small, we just heard of a heartbreaking pet abuse story a few hours ago in our area. After crying this made me smile, Thanks,Mel
