Costume Craft Tutorial Halloween

Cat Ears for a Halloween Costume

I just wanted to pop in today with a quick little tutorial on how to make cat ears for a cat/lion/tiger costume.

My lovely friend Courtney dressed up as a leopard for Halloween last year and asked me to make her some ears for her costume.

I was able to make her this pair using some scraps of felt in my craft supplies and a cheap headband.

First I cut two templates out of scrap paper, to give me an idea of the size of ear that I wanted, as well as the small triangle for the inner ear.

Find a headband that fits, like this cheap dollar store find. You can try to match the hair colour to help the headband blend in more.

Now fold a piece of black felt in half and take the larger triangle template and use it to cut through both layers of felt, making sure that the bottom stays connected. You’ll need two of these double triangle shapes, one for each ear.

Now cut out two of the smaller triangles out of pink felt to make the inner ear.

Wrap the double triangles around the headband and position them where you’d like them. Hot glue them in place, gluing the two sides together as well. Glue the little triangles on top of each ear to make the “inner ear”.

Depending on how thick the felt is that you use, they should stand up fine on their own.

You can also do this to make floppy puppy dog ears or even perky bunny ears with pipe cleaners inside to make them bendable.
