Autumn Thanksgiving

Looking Forward to Thanksgiving

This weekend is the Canadian Thanksgiving, which means that all week I’ve been daydreaming about what we’ll be doing.

I’m looking forward to lots of visits with family and friends.

These two will be getting in lots of cuddle time in front of the fireplace.

My sister and I will help my mom set up the 20 or so place settings around the table for our big family dinner.

This is the table we set back in 2010, but we’ve already got some new ideas for this year.

Whiskey will be licking his lips at the thought of a whole bacon wrapped turkey to himself. (In your dream buddy!)

Dad will use his expert turkey carving techniques.

There will be plenty of delicious sides made with love.

Plus a few delicious treats to enjoy at the end when we’re already so full.

I’ve thought about bringing Cheesy Green Beans.

Or maybe Mock Mashed Potatoes for Garrett. It’s actually made with cauliflower, but he prefers them over regular mashed potatoes and I have to agree!

A couple of years ago I made a Spinach and Cheese Puff for Thanksgiving and it was a huge hit.

Another favourite of Garrett’s is the Savoury Stuffed Acorn Squash I made for our cornish hen dinner. It would be great put into a large casserole dish for a crowd of people.

If there was any room after dinner and the traditional pumpkin pie, I’d make some of these Pumpkin Brownies.

Just in case we get any visitors ourselves over this busy weekend, we’ve got the place all fixed up to welcome them with our Colourful Fall Wreath.

And the inside is all ready with our festive Fall Bookcase Mantel.

If time permits, we may even have another one of our own little Thanksgivings at home. We’re almost coming up on a year of living together, so it would be nice to do a little celebrating.

The great thing about doing a little dinner at home is that we’ll be able to use the leftovers!

I’ll definitely have to make a batch of Leftover Cranberry Sauce Muffins.

Any turkey will be saved up to make the new Turkey and Biscuits recipe.

I still have quite a bit on my to-do list before we hit the road on Saturday, but I’m in such a happy mood about the holiday that even the dreary weather can’t bring me down. I even made a special pumpkin pie for us to try this week, because I couldn’t wait until Sunday to have it. Recipe will be posted tomorrow!

Looks like a perfect celebration. Love the idea of the leftover cranberry sauce muffins. I’m off to check out that idea.
