Autumn

Our Very Fall-Like Weekend

When this weekend finally rolled around, I was so relieved. I love having time home with Garrett and Whiskey, nights out with friends, dinner and visits with family. I only wish there was more time each weekend to get stuff done.

By Sunday evening we had the house (mostly) tidy and clean, a delicious dinner in the oven (Meatballs with Semi-Homemade Tomato Sauce on Spaghetti Squash!) and a bunch of my weekly paperwork done, but I still wish there had been time for more crafts and maybe watching a movie!

The weekend kicked off a bit early on Thursday evening when Garrett brought home a beautiful bouquet of fall flowers to celebrate our second anniversary. I could not stopping grinning the whole night after he brought them home. Such a sweet and lovely surprise.

I couldn’t believe how gorgeous it was and how thoughtful he was to pick so many of my favourite seasonal flowers.

Sunflowers (one of my all-time favourites), along with a fun little seed pod.

There were also giant vibrant gerbera daisies and a fun little decorative cabbage. I’ve never seen that in a flower arrangement before, but I absolutely loved it.

On a trip to the grocery store on Friday night we spotted real white pumpkins lined up outside. I’ve never seen a real one, just the fake ones. I still really want to get one for our porch. (posted on Instagram)

We did lots of driving this weekend, which was a great way to see all the trees starting to change colours. The lovely vibrant hues really make up for those bitter cold mornings these days.

As always, Whiskey was only happy if he could sit on my lap the whole drive and have a little nap. Not that it’s a real hardship to have some cuddle time with my little buddy.

We went to my parents’ for dinner on Saturday night and helped my mom put up some of her fall decorations in time for our family Thanksgiving dinner next weekend.

I always loving coming home to the whole place decorated for holidays.

We also had a great curbside furniture find while walking home from a party on Saturday night. I spotted this dresser sitting on the side of the road at 3:30am and convinced Garrett to carry it all the way to my parents’ house in the middle of the night. That’s true love, right?

The plan is to sand it down and give it a quick coat of white paint next weekend while I’m home visiting my parents. Maybe add some fun new handles. The only real repair it needs is a wood track on the bottom drawer to help it slide in, but otherwise than that, it has good bones. And thankfully it was free!

And we finished off the weekend with a slice of homemade pie from my mom. Yum. I love fall!
