Apartment Decor

The Hunt for a Glass Door Cabinet

There is one piece of furniture that has continually eluded me at antique stores, garage sales and decor stores – a glass door cabinet. It is a piece that I’ve been on the look out for for years, and whenever I see another blogger who has just found one (and usually with some amazingly low price tag) I have to admit that I get a little tinge of jealously.

It is a look that I’ve always loved, especially when it is in a cheery colour. (source)
Or a lovely pale colour with chippy paint. (source)
Maybe even a sunny yellow for a little punch of colour in a bathroom. (source)

A little while ago, Sarah from Cozy.Cottage.Cute instagrammed this photo of a cabinet she found at HomeGoods here in Canada for $199. Seriously?!? I stopped into one near us on the way home from work, but unfortunately they didn’t have anything like it. That is one of the frustrating things about stores like that that sometimes only have one offs. But I’ll still be on the look out for it!

I even love taller piece, especially like this one with the countertop. This is a great way to add another work surface in a kitchen or dining room. (source)

I am also a big fan of glass fronted upper cabinets in kitchen like this one. (source)

Although I would prefer a piece that has character and a little wear and tear, I would be happy to find a new piece like this and refinish it. (source)

Or maybe use some reclaimed wood to make my own rustic version. (source)

One thing I really love about this style of cabinets is that there are so many ways that you can use them. Kath from Kath Eats Real Food used this beautiful white cabinet from Crate & Barrel to house all her dish for blog food photos.

In her new home, she used the cabinet in her front entryway. (Source)

I also love her use of tall IKEA glass door bookcases in her new living room. A lovely way to display her incredible bowl collection and actually store some books too.

Canadian House & Home magazine’s blog transformed the half glass cabinet into a DIY Linen Closet.
CBC’s Steve & Chris did a similar organized linen closet using the full glass door cabinet.
It would even make a great way to store a fabric and craft collection like on Mini Manor Blog. I wish that my craft supplies looked this organized!

I plan to still keep a lookout for an old cabinet that just needs a little love and fresh paint, or maybe even attempt to make it myself (which may end up in a pile of wood and broken glass).

Do you have a piece of furniture or decor that you’ve been on the lookout for and never seem to find?

I love some of the designs and definitely I will let my father show this because he’s a furniture specialist and we love to create any kinds of designs in furniture.
